Ruth was born on July 3, 1916 in Tacoma and passed away on September 1, 2007. She was the youngest child of John and Lisa Nero, who immigrated to the United States from Norway in 1909. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Arthur, William, Oscar and Edwin Nero, sisters Margaret Fifer and Nell Breidenbach, and nephews William E. Nero, James T. Fifer, and Frederick J. Breidenbach. Surviving are nephew Donald L. Fifer of Gig Harbor, and nieces Marilyn Breidenbach Duvall of Lakewood, Joan Nero Wall of Portland, Oregon, Lisa Nero Turk of Fairfax, California, and Dr. Karen Nero of Christchurch, New Zealand. She is also survived by 14 great-nephews and nieces, and 21 great-great-nephews and nieces. Ruth lived all her life in Tacoma, graduating from Lincoln High School. She worked as secretary for the late Norton Clapp, and then executive secretary for the Pierce County Medical Bureau, now Regence Blue Shield, until her retirement. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage, and enjoyed traveling to Norway to see her parents? and siblings? birthplace. Ruth was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Tacoma, and a former member of the Tacoma Orthopedic Association and the Humane Society of Tacoma-Pierce County. She was a wonderful caring and loving aunt and will be deeply missed. Her family extends thanks to Narrows Glen, Laurel House and ManorCare for the kindnesses extended to her.
