Puyallup, WA – You considered yourself very lucky if you received a plate of Pat Hatley cookies during the holidays. She didn’t have any secret recipes, just a love of baking. On March 6, Patricia Irene Hatley, passed away peacefully at the age of 94.
Pat was born on May 4, 1926 in Arlington, WA to Roy and Catherine Robb. She and her older brother, Gordon attended Arlington High School where she was involved in numerous activities, including cheerleading.
After graduation, she moved to Seattle to attend business college and later worked in a dental clinic. In 1948, she married her high school sweetheart, Carl “Bud” Hatley and moved to Parkland where Bud attended PLU. In 1950, they moved to New York City where Bud attended Columbia University. Pat worked at an insurance company, often attended night classes with Bud and took in as many Broadway shows as they could.
Upon return to Washington State, they settled in the Fife Heights area. During those years Pat was involved in the Chief Henry Sicade Orthopedic Group raising money for the Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital and later she become a special education teacher’s aide in the Federal Way School District. She was a wonderful seamstress, loved to garden, was an avid golfer, enjoyed family ski trips and boating around the Puget Sound.
Both Pat and Bud retired from the Federal Way School District in 1982, making a move to Puyallup and pursuing their dream of traveling. Over the years they traveled to Hawaii, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and throughout Europe.
Pat continued to live in Puyallup after Bud died in 2002. She joined the YWCA, enjoyed seeing musical theatre productions and was involved in starting the annual 4th of July, Federal Way Miles for Meso 5K Run/Walk, raising money for Mesothelioma Research.
In 2019, she moved to Wesley Bradley Park in Puyallup making new friends, taking exercise classes and short trips to visit family.
Pat is survived by daughter, Carla (William) of San Francisco, CA; son Robb (Denise) of Gladstone, OR; a granddaughter, Kyrie Juchemich-Pesto (John) of Saudi Arabia and a grandson, Corey of Lake Oswego, OR. A private service will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Curemeso.org or Special Olympics Washington – specialolympicswashington.org.
