Melissa Maxine Williams

September 7, 1953 - May 31, 2021

September 7th, 1953 – May 31st, 2021

Melissa Maxine Williams, age 67, passed away in her home in Port Orchard on the night of May 31st, 2021 after a battle with endometrial cancer.

Melissa was born in Seattle to Rachel D. Williams and Benton Gomer Williams. She is survived by her sisters who loved her and cared for her from the beginning of her life to the end, Sandra Johnsen (Williams) and Julianne Williams, and their husbands Per Johnsen and Richard Thymian, all of Port Orchard, Washington. She was the beloved aunt to Jonathan Ernst, Kristianna Johnsen, and Randi Johnsen, great aunt to Freya Jumonville, Felix Beranger Ernst, Sacha Beranger Ernst, Ovidia Rotter and Yago Rotter. She adored her cousins, including the Norris family. She was the life of every party, the spark of joy in her family, an animal lover, and a true, dear, lifelong friend to many.

Growing up in Ballard, Melissa was the fun-loving baby of the family who wanted to be included in everything her older sisters were doing. She loved practical jokes and pranks, playing at Lake Goodwin with her cousins, stories around the campfire, and teasing her older sisters and their boyfriends.

A spirited teen with a wild streak and a brilliant mind, Melissa attended Ballard High School and earned a BA in Economics and Finance from Central Washington University as well as a CPA accreditation. She took great pride in her professional career. She worked in law offices in Washington and California before becoming the CFO of Childhaven, a nonprofit organization assisting with trauma recovery. She donated many hours to helping the organization with fundraising.

She loved getting together with her best girlfriends, travel, golf, food and wine, gardening, live music, the Sonics, Mariners, and a good party. She had several great romances in her life, and was married and divorced four times.

She enjoyed adventures with her ex-husbands Dave Wolf (now deceased), Tim Gavin, Dick Perry and Mel Saunders.

On one holiday trip with extended family to Sun River, Melissa gave everyone matching flannel pajamas. The festivities took off when Melissa suggested a fashion parade down the wide staircase. Melissa could turn even the most boring Christmas gift into a true celebration.

She was a loving, caring daughter to her aging parents and treasured her years in Kitsap County with them and her sisters. After her parents’ passing, Melissa renovated their South Colby waterfront home, retired in 2018, and celebrated with a huge gathering of family and friends.

After a private ceremony, a Memorial Celebration of Life will be planned when travel restrictions have ended. Please contact the family for details. Donations can be made in her honor to her favorite charities: Childhaven, Kitsap Humane Society, and South Kitsap Helpline.
