February 28, 1941 - November 6, 2020
Josie Mae Moore was born on February 28, 1941 to Sam and Pernola Dixon in Natchez, Mississippi. She made her transition on November 6, 2020 at 79 years of age. In her early years, Josie attended Saint Francis grade school and Saint Francis high in Natchez, Mississippi. Josie loved to travel, fishing, and keeping in touch with friends. She also loved to cooking soul food, especially for her brother-in-law.
He greatest devotion was to Christ, her Lord and Savior, who she accepted at an early age. She was a dedicated member of Hilltop Christian Center Church, until her illness in 2007. She served as an Elder and in many other capacities. Her bright smile, soft demeanor, compassionate, kind, and generous nature were an inspiration to all who knew her. An attempt to chastise her was always met with her favorite adage, “Put me down, and let me walk.”
Josie was preceded in death by her sons Larry Dixon, Aaron Moore, daughter Verleen Moore, mother Pernola Dixon, father Sam Dixon, brothers Sam Dixon and Henry Dixon, and sister Delois Brinkley.
Leaving to cherish her loving memory are her husband John Moore Jr., sons John Moore III and Marcus Jones-Moore, daughter Zecoya Jones-Moore, sisters Amy Jones, Adine Moore, Rosie Dixon, and Christine Dixon, thirteen grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, old friends, are also among the many who will truly miss her presence.
