November 25, 1949 - November 1, 2022
Charles (Chuck) Alan Jones, age 72 of North Kitsap, Washington, passed away from kidney and heart disease on November 1, 2022. He died surrounded by family and friends who were thankful for the light and laughter he brought into their lives.
Chuck was born on November 25, 1949 in Winslow, Washington to Ralph and Vera Jones. He spent his childhood in Rolling Bay on Bainbridge Island. As the youngest of five kids he was well cared for, and spoiled, by his brother and sisters (Ellen, Jack, Joy, and Judy). Chuck graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1968 and was widely considered the class clown, a skill he kept throughout his entire life. Chuck made friends wherever he went; starting conversations and cracking jokes with strangers. His humor would often make others groan or cringe and ask with a roll of the eyes “Did he really say that?”
Chuck married Jeannie Perrin on January 2, 1988. He quickly became a loving father to Jeannie’s young daughters, Michele and Keely. He was a huge champion of all their interests, including hours of listening to Keely practice piano and driving her to lessons; helping them shop for their first cars; encouraging them to excel in school and pursue master’s degrees. Chuck was well known in the community for owning Chuckles gift shop in Poulsbo in the late 1980s/early1990s. He loved music, cars, movies (the more slapstick comedy the better), the Mariners, Sonics and Seahawks, friends and family, and especially his four granddaughters (Iris age 15, Caitlin age 14, Nora age 12 and Catherine age 7). Although he took it in stride that sometimes he was the fourth wheel to Jeannie, Keely and Michele, he was very thankful for his two son-in-laws, Joe and Jason, who helped tamper all the strong female energy and noise level.
He is survived by his wife; Jeannie, daughters Michele Roberts (Jason) of Tumwater, Washington and Keely Sawyer (Joe) of Poulsbo, Washington; granddaughters Caitlin Roberts and Iris, Nora and Catherine Sawyer; sister Judy Dulay (Sonny) of Bainbridge Island; and numerous nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
A memorial reception will be held Saturday, November 26, 2022 from 1:30-4:30 pm at the American Legion Colin Hyde Post 172 (7880 NE Bucklin Hills Rd, Bainbridge Island, Washington) with time for sharing starting at 2:30 pm. With the fall and winter respiratory disease season upon us, please stay home if you are not feeling well and be sure you are up-to-date with your flu and COVID vaccines. You can also wear a mask at the reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chuck’s honor to Kids in Concert (KIC), https://kidsinconcert.org/, a not-for-profit music education organization offering children, irrespective of income, the opportunity to learn to play an orchestral instrument. Jeannie, Keely and her daughters have all been involved with KIC.
