Benjamin L. Goss

September 19, 1945 - February 19, 2021

Ben was born in Springfield, Missouri to Benjamin and Alice Plott and passed away in the family home on February 19th, 2021.  After high school he enlisted  in the navy and  did two tours in Vietnam as an advisor on the river patrol boats.  After returning to stateside he became a navy mixed gas deep sea diver.  He loved his naval career and the diving that for the most part was done in Hawaii.  Ben was a qualified hyperbaric technician as well as a diver while in the navy.  He met his wife Janet while she was vacationing in Hawaii and eventually they were married in her home town of Vancouver, British Columbia.  They made their first home in Hawaii and their two sons were born there.  After spending seven years in Hawaii they moved to Kingston, then  made their home in Port Orchard where they lived for over 40 years.  After retiring from the navy Ben went to work for the Sealand  in Tacoma as a merchant marine for two years on the runs up to Alaska.  He then worked at PSNS as a rigger for the remainder of his career and retired in May 2012.
He was involved in the Cub Scouts when his sons were younger, enjoyed fishing, and was an avid reader.   He belonged to the Masons and was a member of the John Paul Jones chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution.  He loved good food, family gatherings, good friends and two beers a day.   He was always jolly,  had a wonderful smile and  had an easy  going personality.
He leaves behind his wife Janet of 47 1/2 years, sons  Slade Goss and Tanner Goss (Jen) both of  Port Orchard,   granddaughters Madisyn, Hailey and Natalie, his sister Janie, two sister-in-laws and a brother-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.  With great love comes great sorrow with his passing.
