Charles L. Marsh Passed away March 29, 2013. He was born February 25, 1925 in Bern, Kansas to Charles and Clara (Lange) Marsh.
After teaching school for a year, Charles was deployed in the National Guard to help in World War II. He was eventually transferred to Fort Lewis, and has lived in Pierce County ever since.
After his discharge, in 1949, Charles joined the Tacoma Police Department as an Identification and Records Officer. He was trained in fingerprinting, and served on the force until his retirement in 1972, at the rank of Lieutenant. Charles did not retire to a casual life, but became the first executive director of the Washington State Council of Police Officers. He lobbied for many years to protect the interests of police officers statewide, retiring from this position in 1991.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Anderson (John), grandson Steve Basmajian (Pam), granddaughter Christine Thiessen, and grandson Bryan Anderson. At his request, no service will be held.
